We produce silks, satins, organzas and georgettes which are available in 30 - 50 colours and are designed to mix and match with our prints. We change our ranges each year to ensure that 'if it's in fashion it's in our catalogue'.
All items featured on this website and in our catalogues can be made at home. The dresses are designed by Vogue, Butterick, McCall and Simplicity paper patterns..

Our specialist dress fabrics are sold by the metre from fabric shops in the UK and Ireland.

About Us
M. Makower & Co. Ltd started as silk merchants
in the City of London (Bread Street) in 1862. Moritz Makower had
arrived in London only a few months before with plenty of energy
and good contacts in Lyons, France. In 1899 Makower became first
UK merchants to import silk from Japan. Today we are still a
merchanting company, still produce our own silk prints and are
still family owned. The current MD is great great grandaughter
of Moritz Makower. We only sell to wholesale distributors and
retail shops, not direct to the public. Our distibution is predominantly
in the UK and Eire but we also have distributors in Europe,
Scandinavia and Australasia. |
